Why 3 Sets?
|
|
- Muscles perform better when they are gradually stressed.
- Set 1 initiates
- The brain starts telling the body (muscle) what to do
- The first set should ‘turn on muscle.’
- One set is not guaranteed to ‘turn on muscle;’ it may take additional sets/cues, and trainer1 will make a note to this effect
- Set 2 automates
- The connection between brain and body (muscle) is set.
- The muscle should figure out what to do and doesn't requie continuous cueing.
- However, in this set the muscle may still only be in the process of getting turned on.
- Set 3 integrates
- Once automated, the brain-to-body (muscle) connection can integrate this and other connections into a new, more complex exrcise.
- For example, the mid-back, midsection, and hips must all be automated before they can be integrated into an effective performance of the squat.
