Alternate Backward Lunge DB Bicep Curl

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. In a standing position hold on to the DB's at your chest and shoulders, elbows in and pointed straight ahead, make sure that the shoulder blades are down and back and and not shrugging towards your ears.
  2. As you initiate the backward lunge (see atlernate backward lunge), lower the DB's towards the front knee and slightly behind it without bending over to get it there.
  3. As you inititate the return to the standing position, use the drive generated by the legs to help curl the DB's back to the starting position by the time you are back to the standing position.

Common Errors and Their Correction

  1. Too much swinging during the return to standing and simultaneous DB curling. Keep the midsection engaged throughout the movement to maximize the initiation of the glutes and hamstrings of the legs during the lunge and maintain control as you complete the curl. The weight may also have to be decreased until you are able to minimize or eliminate excessive swinging.
  2. Elbows point out to the side and do not elevate enough to point forward. Drive harder from the lunge position to help initiate momentum for the DB's return to starting position or decrease the weight until you are able to maintain the elbow position
